Backstory
Winnie was born in the Sioux Nations. Her biological father was her mother's high-school sweetheart, but unready to have children, he left Alexandria to have Winnie on her own. Despite not wanting a child, Alexandria stubbornly chose to raise Winnie. Despite Alexandria being a caring mother, Winnie still knew that she was unwanted, creating tension in their relationship. This would cause her to seek out being a magic user as a way of proving her worth. For her 18th birthday, Maya gifted her the Storm Knife. In late 1932, a thunderbird feather was stolen from the Sioux Nations by a man named Si-gwa-ah-doh-gwih working on behalf of Raven, the Servitor of War. Winnie hunts him down to New Orleans to retrieve the feather.

Trivia
- Winnie's name in Lakota (Wichapi Pa) translates to Bitter Star. This is a reference to Wormwood.
- Winnie and Lyn share a lot of similarities. They are both magic users, they both have a cleft lip, and they both have polydactylism resulting in having six fingers on each hand. In addition, Winnie was one of Lyn's previous names when she was younger. Winnie's birthday, Leap Day, was the date that Lyn believed her birthday to be until Maya pointed out to her that there was not a Leap Day in the year Lyn was born, 1877.
