Backstory
Oliver was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. His parents were Jewish immigrants from Germany. His younger sister Jacqueline was born in 1913. His parents passed during the influenza pandemic in late 1918, shortly before Oliver's high school graduation, leaving him to raise his sister on his own. He moves to New York City with Jacqueline to attend NYU and eventually obtain a Bacherlor's in Journalism. While in college, he gets a position at the New York Times. Struggling to manage the responsibilities of work, school, and raising his siter, Oliver turns to stimulants to be able to get more work done, resulting in a cocaine addiction. While working for the New York Times, Oliver develops a reputation for following leads until the end, never giving up. He also ends up with a reputation for finding himself in the midst of occult happenings, much to his chagrin. Eventually, he begins a piece on the disappearance of the Whateley family, leading him to meet Lyn, thus starting their five-year-long situationship. In March 1933, he finds himself in New Orleans investigating the Cliff Mob as an alternative to his boss sending him to Germany to report on the political changes happening.

Oliver has a dry, sarcastic humor which often gets him in trouble. He tends to say the first thing that comes to mind, regardless of if it is a good or smart thing to say. He has a high tolerance for weirdness and the occult. He is fiercely protective of his friends and loved ones.
Appearance
Oliver has brown, curly hair and a prominent nose. His face is covered in acne scars from when he was a teenager, giving his cheeks a pockmarked look. He is prone to nosebleeds. He is very slight in frame due to his addiction suppressing his appetite. He has a few scars from previous scrapes with the occult and other dangers.
