"I've always been a gambler..."

Lyn Graham is a character in Where is Your Rider and No Stone Unturned. She is primarily known for her thievery and agility. She is part of the Whateley family, although she normally disavows it. She is the biological daughter of Bill Whateley and Angeline, though she did not know she was related to Bill, or any Whateley, until later on in her childhood. After being recruited to the Where is Your Rider posse by Beans, she learns of her true heritage. Here she meets Bill and Maya, as well as develops the grudge against Jasper Stone, her driving motivation during the plot of No Stone Unturned.

Backstory

Lyn was born to Angeline Silvers in 1877. Angeline's current partner, Wilber, presumed the child was his. The two went around the country committing crime with their posse, often taking Lyn with them. During this time period, Lyn went through several different aliases. When a heist goes wrong and one of the crime posse members gets killed protecting Lyn, the posse shatters. The posse splinters further after Angeline and Wilber breaking up. Angeline and one of the crime posse members Milo raise Lyn for a little over a year. On Christmas Day 1882, Wilber returns and kicks Milo out, furious about the cover the three of them were using. Angeline and Wilber continue their life of crime, leaving Lyn behind in a house that Angeline and Wilber killed the owner of for "a few days". The few days turns out to be much longer, and after a month of living by herself, Lyn is discovered by the town sheriff when he is sent to do a wellness check on the former inhabitant of the house. Lyn then ends up in the orphanage, where she was labeled a problem child. She is eventually adopted by the Tanner family, though she is returned to the orphanage for her poor behavior. During her time in the orphanage, Angeline is arrested and sells out Wilber in order to lighten her sentence. In response, Wilber sends some of his contacts to murder Angeline. Lyn eventually runs away from the orphanage and begins the life of a petty thief, stealing keys and home deeds in order to sell them back to their rightful owners. The Where is Your Rider posse runs into her outside a train station, where she is convinced by Beans to join them.

Personality & Appearance

Personality

As a child, Lyn is a mischievous, combative, and hoarding thief. She is very smart and cunning for a 7-year-old and knows it. She is very angry at the world and takes it out on everybody else. She does not trust people, especially adults. She tends to sort adults into useful, boring, religious, and actually cool. She does not like to be touched, hates wearing shoes, dresses, and brushing her hair. She has serious commitment issues in believing people actually care about her instead of pitying her.

As an adult, she is still distrustful, though much more manipulative. She has honed her thievery skills, as well as her tendency for violence. She struggles to form relationships. While Maya and Bill helped socialize her some, they did also pass on their own bad habits, making Lyn an uncanny, fierce and dangerous person.

Appearance

As a child, Lyn has long, unruly carmel hair and hazel eyes. She has a cleft lip. As she uses magic more, she takes on more of the Whateley traits: dark hair and bright green eyes. She has six fingers on each hand.

As an adult, Lyn has chin-length hair that is dyed a carmel color matching her childhood hair color, though frequently she has the roots of her natural black hair visible. She has bright green eyes. She is covered in scars, though most notably there is a pair of scars across her cheek, on the same side of her face as her cleft lip. She still has six fingers on each hand. She looks about a decade younger than she actually is, due to drinking Fountain of Youth water.
