Ezra Acker

Ezra Acker is a character in No Stone Unturned and Wormwood. He has lived a long life, working many jobs, including miner, territorial ranger, and Hellstromme Industries employee. He spent a good chunk of his life seeking revenge for his families, though after the events of No Stone Unturned, he becomes a cyborg, performing various tasks before settling on Banshee.

Backstory

Ezra Acker was born in the Great Plains in the area that would become the state of Dakota. His father left to serve in the Civil War. In 1870, while his father is still gone, a group of faminites preys on his family, consuming his mother and siblings. In a fit of desperation, Ezra sets the house on fire to kill the faminites. When his father does not return from the Civil War by 1872, Ezra leaves his home to head to Deadwood, where he hears there is money to be made as a ghost rock miner. While living in Deadwood, he meets Abigail Water, who he marries in 1879. The two of them have three children: Joab, Jacob, and Mary. Unfortunately, in 1884, Ezra returns home from the mines to find his home burnt to the ground, his wife and children not surviving the fire. His neighbors claim it was the work of unnatural creatures. He loses himself to alcohol until about a year later, he joins the Territorial Rangers in an attempt to get revenge. He spends fifteen years as a Territorial Ranger, rising in their ranks, until he loses his right arm to a monster in 1900. Unable to fire a weapon properly, Ezra retires from the Territorial Rangers to New Orleans, where he meets Daniel Sprout, an aspiring inventor working for Hellstromme Industries. In gratitude for Ezra's advice, protection, and expertise, Daniel crafts Ezra a metal prosthetic. Ezra eventually learns of a man named Zachary Chen who was responsible for both attacks on his family, and he begins to hunt him down in New Orleans.

Personality & Appearance

Personality

Ezra is generally a relatively calm individual, though during No Stone Unturned, he is occasionally prone to anger. He is bitter, jaded, and revenge-oriented, but methodical in his approach. By Wormwood, he has generally mellowed. He drinks and smokes cigarettes regularly, especially when he is feeling more melancholic. He works well as part of a team, though he does pick favorites. He is loyal and protective over those he views as family.

Appearance

Ezra is an older man with thin, gray-white hair and light brown eyes. He is on the shorter side at only 5'2", though he has a strong physique due to many years working as a miner and as a territorial ranger. His right arm is replaced with a metallic prosthetic designed for him by a Hellstromme employee, Daniel Sprout. After becoming a full cyborg, he keeps the metal arm, though he has additional robotic replacements, including a metal plate replacing the left half of his face.

Interrim Between Campaigns

After No Stone Unturned, Ezra remains in New Orleans a little longer, until Daniel convinces him to become a test subject for Hellstromme's cyborg experiments. Ezra is the first successful cyborg, and works for Hellstromme Industries as a specialist, where eventually he befriends Darius Hellstromme. He resumes monster hunting on behalf of Hellstromme Industries, though eventually he tires of it, and returns to Dakota to resume being a farmer and a ghost rock miner. When ghost rock is discovered in the Faraway system in 2052, Ezra becomes interested and moves to Banshee. He spends several decades there as a ghost rock miner, enjoying the experience as being similar to his youth in the American West. Eventually, he grows frustrated with the increasing difficulties of mining on Banshee. After the World Storm, during which Ezra loses a leg which must be replaced with a prosthetic, Ezra retires from Hellstromme Industries to start a small mine on the continent of Two, where he can be left alone. He grows tired of the immortality becoming a cyborg has given him. However, in the mid-2080's, Ezra comes across a young Mo'ipe, who Ezra takes under his wing and raises as his own. As Mo'ipe grows older, he becomes more adventurous, and Ezra follows his new son to new adventures, putting aside the thoughts of ending his immortality for now.
